Drama 1

 

Drama 1 is a year-long class open to all students. Students perform in class presentations including: oral interpretation; monologues; scenes; storytelling; mime; and commercials. Students are also introduced to the art of stagecraft as they create make-up, costume and set designs.

Drama 2

Prerequisite: Drama 1 and an audition to acquire a teacher recommendation.

Drama 2 is a year-long class where students study styles of acting and the history of theater. From the Greeks to the Modern playwrights, students read, analyze, and perform scenes and monologues. The acting theories are explored. Drama 2 students perform a production in the fall for in school presentation and a children's play in the winter and various showcases throughout the year.

Drama 3

Prerequisite: Drama 1 & 2 and an audition OR an interview for technical students to acquire a teacher recommendation.

 

Drama 3 is a performance-based class. Students are required to participate in scenes, monologues, one-act plays, musical presentations, and improvisation at area festivals and competitions. Design work in costume, scenic, and graphic arts are incorporated into the class productions. Drama 3 specifically studies American Drama. Students are expected to perform in the fall play, winter musical, and spring dinner theater.

Drama 4

Prerequisite: Drama 1, 2, & 3, of two contrasting pieces OR an interview for technical students to acquire a teacher recommendation..

 

Drama 4 is a performance-based class. Students are required to participate in scenes, monologues, one-act plays, musical presentations, and improvisation at area festivals and competitions. Design work in costume, scenic, and graphic arts are incorporated into the class productions. Drama 4 specifically studies World Drama. Students are expected to perform in the fall play, winter musical, and spring dinner theater.

Drama International Baccalaureate

Prerequisite: Drama 1, 2, 3 and/or 4, and an interview to acquire a teacher recommendation.

 

Drama IB is an honors level course that meets the requirements for the International Baccalaureate Exam in Theater. Students are expected to write a research paper from the point of view of a director, designer, or actor, complete a portfolio, and pass an exam from the IB. Higher level candidates must also complete an individual project in theater. All IB students must direct or produce a one-act play.

Musical Theater Production

Prerequisite: Audition or interview.

 

Musical Theater Production meets spring semester only. Students audition or interview for the cast and crew of the Spring Musical. It is an 8th period class and meets after school. Upon completion of the musical, students study the history of the American Musical Theater and present reports on musicals under consideration for the following year.
