Instructions for Timers

1.      At the festival headquarters, you will be issued the following items that you will bring to your classroom:

           A stopwatch

           Scoring sheets for your room

           Pencils/Pens

A "Consensus Sheet" for your room

The list of participants for that session for your room

An envelope to put in the scoring sheets and the consensus sheet for that session.

2.      Distribute the scoring sheets and pencils/pens to the judges.

3.      Hold onto the consensus sheet and envelope until the end of the session.

4.      You will need to sit off to the side but at the front of the room so that the actors can see you clearly.

5.      At the top of the hour, take roll to figure out which participants are in the room and which ones need to go first/last/etc.

6.      Once you have accounted for everyone, read the following paragraph:

Hi!  My name is ______________________ and I'll be the timer for this session.  You will have 3 minutes to perform your monologue / 5 minutes to perform your scene.  I will start timing when you begin the first lines of your piece.  I will raise my hand when you have 15 seconds left on the clock.  I will call "TIME" when your time is up.  If you are in the middle of a sentence, you may finish your thought.  If you continue to perform after that, you will be disqualified.  We ask that observers not get up or move around when actors are performing.   Good Luck!

7.      When all of the actors have performed for that session, give the judges the consensus sheet and the envelope and clear the room out.  The judges will need to make their picks in private.  They will hand you the sealed envelope once when they are ready.  Bring the sealed envelope back to the Festival Headquarters and pick up the supplies for your next assignment.

4.      You will be responsible for making sure that noise outside of the room is kept to a minimum.
